Friends of No. 9 2023 Giving Campaign

Through the generous donations from supporters of Friends of No. 9, we have made significant progress in restoring this historic locomotive. As we near the year-end, we invite you to consider contributing to Friends of No. 9 so that we can complete the restoration and plan for a display location.

In 2022, we relocated the locomotive to Millerick Brothers’ yard in Sebastapol for intensive restoration metal work. In 2023, they disassembled major parts of the locomotive, strengthened the weakened frame rails, rehabbed the trucks, and replaced metal in several areas that had rusted to paper-thin thickness. The completed restoration will bring Engine No. 9 back to the condition it had six-months after the 1921 delivery from the Heisler factory with a few enhancements necessary for operating on the mountain railroad.

We plan to hold a celebratory event when we will mount the boiler back on the frame.
